Information Exchange Seminar (IES) 2016

The Military Engineering Centre of Excellence (MILENG COE) Information Exchange Seminar (IES) is an annual event which aims to provide NATO entities and others the opportunity to examine and discuss challenges of today’s operational environments and Lessons Learned in order to identify areas for improvement and future development. This year’s event takes place in Ingolstadt, Germany over the period 29 Nov to 01 Dec 16.

The topic for IES 16 is “ MILENG Support to Mobility in Art.5 Operations”.

By LtColn (OF-4) Martin Štencl ( ),
Military Engineering Centre of Excellence
SO & Cell Chief Specialist Support, PCD

NATO and nations have recently focused on areas of concern with regards to preparedness for an Article 5 conflict particularly with regards to collective defence capabilities. As NATO shifts from ISAF and Stability operations the abilities to conduct operations in a conventional Warfighting scenario are being examined.  To this end the MILENGCOE through the seminar will examine and identify available MILENG capabilities in accordance with existing NATO doctrine, planning processes and capability codes and standards in order to identify any gaps, shortfalls and areas for improvement which may be required to support the NATO strategic plans (collective defence scenario). The overarching purpose is to better prepare the Alliance through a better understanding of the requirements necessary to support a combined arms general defence plan in an Article 5 context for future operations.

A wide range of prominent and knowledgeable speakers from various international organizations, government agencies and the military community have been invited to address their experiences and to provoke discussion.  The seminar will consist of presentations followed by syndicate work.  A visit to the MILENG COE Industry Day is also part of the programme. The syndicate topics are as follows:

Syndicate 1: MILENG Support to sustainment and resilience – role of NFIU

Syndicate 2: MILENG integration in JLSG

Syndicate 3: Initial entry - MILENG Support SPOD, APOD, RPOD

Syndicate 4: Lines of Communications – MSR, railways, …

A draft agenda and other information about the IES 16 and previous information exchange seminars can be found on MILENG COE web page, under this link: IES 2015
