Aim
NATO Bridge Assessment Course (NBAC) is a course designed to train personnel on the rapid bridge assessment methodologies defined as common NATO standards for Bridge assessment IOT be able to advise the commander in bridge usability.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course students should be able to:
- Understand Bridge Assessment related Policy & Doctrine (STANAG 2021) and explain theoretical background (physics & engineering).
- Execute Bridge Reconnaissance and Assessment with different rapid and expedient methods (CAN,DEU & BEL).
- The course includes lectures as well as remote and on-site syndicate work.

Target Audience
The target audience are personnel from the NATO Nations and NATO Partner Nations (PfP and MD), tasked to execute or train bridge assessment. Targeted trade is mainly engineers, but also other trades like logisticians can benefit from the course. Officers (OF 1 - OF 3) and NCOs (OR 3 - OR 9) or civilian equivalent. Exemptions can be made on a case by case basis.
Prerequisites
Language proficiency:
- Students must have the following standards of proficiency in English (STANAG 6001): Listening (Good/3), Speaking (Fair/2), Reading (Good/3), Writing (Fair/2) On a case by case basis listening and reading levels can be lowered to level 2 proficiency.
Computer Skills:
- Students must be familiar with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel capabilities.
