Aim
The Countermine STANAG Writing Workshop is convened to advance NATO’s standardization efforts in the countermine and explosive hazards domain. The workshop focuses on developing, refining, and harmonizing NATO Standardization Agreements (STANAGs) and supporting documents relevant to countermine capabilities, ensuring they reflect current operational requirements, technological developments, and best practices.
Through coordinated expert discussions, collaborative drafting sessions, and structured review processes, the workshop aims to strengthen the interoperability and effectiveness of NATO and partner forces engaged in countermine and explosive hazard operations. Participants will contribute to creating clear, coherent, and implementable standards that support joint and combined operations across land environments.
- To develop, update, and harmonize STANAGs and related standardization documents in the countermine and explosive hazards domain.
- To ensure NATO countermine standards reflect operational needs, lessons learned, and current capabilities.
- To enhance interoperability among NATO and partner nations conducting countermine and explosive hazard operations.
- To coordinate expert input from across the Alliance to produce coherent and actionable standardization outputs.

Event Objectives
The workshop will draft, revise, and consolidate STANAGs related to countermine and explosive hazard operations. It will also review existing standards and identify any gaps that require updates, harmonization, or the initiation of new standardization efforts. Furthermore, the workshop will ensure that countermine standards are aligned with current NATO doctrine, operational lessons, and emerging technologies.
In addition, the event will promote collaborative drafting to maintain consistency across related STANAGs and associated standardization documents. It will facilitate expert-level discussions on technical, operational, and procedural aspects of countermine interoperability.
The workshop will prepare draft documents and recommendations for submission to the relevant NATO standardization authorities and will strengthen multinational understanding and coordination in the development of countermine capabilities.
Target audience
The workshop is intended for national subject-matter experts in countermine, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), and explosive hazards. It is likewise designed for officers and specialists responsible for the development or implementation of STANAGs. Participation also includes representatives from the NATO Command Structure and NATO Force Structure who hold engineering or countermine portfolios.
Additionally, personnel from NATO agencies, Centres of Excellence, and standardization offices are expected to take part. Technical experts from national research and development institutions contributing to countermine capability development are also within the target audience. Industry representatives involved in countermine technologies may participate in an optional or observer capacity, as appropriate. Finally, partner-nation experts engaged in NATO countermine activities and standardization programmes are also considered part of the intended audience.
